Welcome
My name is Melissa Davis. I am a speech pathologist who has worked with a lot of individuals with memory impairments. The memory impairments can be a result of a stroke, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or unknown etiology. I began developing elaborate memory books for these individuals and have found that they increase their quality of life. The use of my Memory Book decreases the individual’s level of frustration and embarrassment, and allows more opportunity for conversation. After working on these elaborate memory books over the last few years, I have found that there may be individuals or family members that may want to do the book themselves. I have also noticed an increased need for special programs for individuals with memory impairments. I have recently published Treasured Moments a do it yourself memory book. Purpose
The purpose of this memory book is to assist your loved one with orientation and recall of short term and long term memory. If they do not know the answer to your question, refer them to this book and encourage them to locate the answers. This will decrease their frustration and allows more opportunity for conversation as you both are looking through the book together.
The "Do It Yourself" Memory Book
I have spent a lot of time developing Memory Books for individuals. Over the years I have noticed the increased need for special programs for individuals with memory impairments.
This workbook was designed for Speech Pathologists and Activity Departments in the Healthcare system and for friends and family members.
Speech Pathologists can utilize this book in therapy sessions to assist with orientation and memory recall. The individual can learn to journalize daily activities to assist with recall.
The Activity Department is always looking for 1:1 activities to do with a resident who does not like to participate in group activities.
Family members will find this workbook beneficial also. Many family members feel that they’ve lost that connection with their loved one. When you sit down and go through all of the questions in the book, you are stimulating conversation and assisting with memory recall. You and your loved one will enjoy reminiscing with this unique book.
Treasured Moments includes the following sections; 12 months of Calendars, Visitor Log, Journal, All About Me and Photos. The photo section allows you to insert photos and write the captions below each photo. The workbook is self explanatory and should not take much time to complete.
